Week 2 Overview of Social Media use

Let's get social... Some people believe in the traditional methods of communication. (i.e.) telephones, personal mail, etc. However if you plan to stay connected to the ever changing times of today on a personal level Facebook is the #1 Social Media site. Facebook host a community estimated of around 2 billion users. The concept allows users to connect with friends from all around the world. Within the community of friends users are even able to create smaller groups, these more intimate groups can range from common interest, hobbies and more. Facebook allows its user to identify the people in your community by specific family members, mother, brother, sister. You get the idea.  Pretty personal right?!

Wanna tell the world how you feel? Facebook is the place to do it! The platform allows it's users to post "Status" updates about how you feel in the moment, along with pictures and videos. Sometimes users prefer not to share with their entire community of friends. That's where the the Messenger app that's synced together with Facebook comes in. If privacy is what you need,  messenger provides just that. Allowing users to send personal messages, pictures, and videos that only the sender and receiver can view. How much more personally connected can one be?!

When I think of Brands, or companies that are advertising a particular product or service Instagram immediately pops in my mind. "Does this brand or company have an Instagram  presence?"  I wonder this because visually I want to asses my opinion on the product or service and Instagram is just the place to do it!

Instagram consist mostly of pictures that are geared toward capturing the eye of followers and linking them to associated website to promote future business. Unlike Facebook,  Instagram has followers instead of creating a community of friends. That's where the business side of Instagram comes in.Users that establish a large amount of followers are able to market themselves as "Instagram models". These "Models" are hired to endorse products or services thru Instagram ads. Talk about forward thinking when it comes to marketing on such a poplar platform.

Instagram holds a certain "Status" element to it. The whose- who of course is expected to have a huge following. Allowing viewers to get a glimpse inside of what seems to be intimate and personal moments of their lives gives Instagram a more personal feel at times. However the business aspect of Instagram is never to far away. People are conditioned to react upon reflex of their senses. Instagram plays on the #1 sense the eyes!

Overall both Facebook and Instagram can be used on a personal and business level. We see it done everyday. You yourself probably have an account for personal use and one for business. Some people bridge the two. They are their business/brand. Whatever the case may be, It's important to establish your Social Media objectives. Once you've done that then choose which platform best suites your goals, and get "Social"

  1. I agree with you. As a business, you need to determine your goals and then build your advertising through a platform that works for your business. I find it interesting that you see Instagram as a business platform. I had never thought of it that way.
